Autotopia

Like most male kids my age, I greatly enjoy automobiles. The design, the aesthetics, and power (of course) is all very appealing. And like most male kids my age, I really enjoy BMWs. Yes, they’re expensive to maintain, expensive to keep, have high depreciation, and are finely tuned so that they only take synthetic oil and premium gas. But it’s okay, because they are amazing little cars. And by little, I do mean big and German-like

Coming up on May 3th, we’ll be headed off to Santa Barbara for a day at Bimmerfest 2008, the largest conglomeration of BMW owners on the West coast. By large, we’re talking 5,000+ attendees. This year, we’re waking up at the crack of dawn and meeting up at locations all across the Western states to begin our exodus to Santa Barbara. Our caravan in the inland empire will be meeting up with 1,000+ car caravans from San Diego, LA, and San Francisco on our way over, so it’s sure to be interesting.

Later this May, the BMW Susan G. Komen Ultimate Drive for Breast Cancer will be headed back out to East LA and San Diego. If you’ve never gone, I absolutely recommend you check it out. Every mile you test-drive in their painted BMWs, they donate a dollar to breast cancer. All you do is sign up, show up, and hop in the next available car for a blast through the local roads. This year, there’s rumors of a 135, 328, 335, X3, X5, 535, 550i, 650i, 750i, Z4 Coupe/Convert, and an M3 to all be available for abusing *ahem* I mean, driving.
