Hey look, free money!
Being near the end of Spring Break, I finally sat myself down and cranked out my taxes. In case you haven’t done them already, check out this link for a helpful comparison of online/free-to-file tax services. They’ve definitely gotten good enough to the point where doing your taxes is pretty painless, and shouldn’t take more than an hour if you’ve got all the papers in front of you. I ended up using TaxAct, which was highly-rated and pretty darn breezy.
What gets me though is the people who think that getting your tax return is like a little gift that the government showers upon you in a gleeful smile. People end up spending it on vacations, entertainment, etc. as if this wasn’t hard-earned cash that belongs in your normal spending and investment portfolio. But perhaps I’m wrong, maybe their tax return is their totally allocated entertainment budget for the year. Heh.
While on the topic financial doo-hickery, check out The Simple Dollar, an amazing blog of really intriguing and surprisingly sage financial advice. They spend a lot of time on their entries, and they are written very matter-of-factly. Definitely a good one to have on the bookmarks.
